Evacuations Ordered as Oakland Fire Grows

A fast-moving brush fire in Northern California's Oakland neighborhood has prompted evacuation orders for hundreds of residents as the blaze grew to 10 acres (4 hectares). The Oakland Fire Department reported that over 80 firefighters are battling the flames, which are fueled by dry conditions and strong 'diablo winds', with red flag warnings issued across the state until Saturday. Although no injuries have been reported, at least eight structures have been damaged, and the fire has caused significant traffic disruptions near the 580 Freeway. The Berkeley Fire Department has declared a state of 'extreme fire weather' and recommended preemptive evacuations in fire-prone areas. Power outages affected approximately 16,000 customers as utilities shut off electricity in response to the heightened wildfire risk.
