Camilo Villegas Calls for Slow Play Penalties

Camilo Villegas, a five-time PGA Tour winner, has called for stricter enforcement of pace of play rules on the Tour, suggesting that slow players should face public shaming as a consequence. Ahead of the Sony Open, he proposed that names of offenders be displayed prominently in locker rooms and that their caddies wear fluorescent orange bibs to highlight the issue. Villegas, who recently joined the PGA Tour’s Policy Board as a Player Director, believes that the current system is inadequate and that with reduced field sizes coming in 2026, there will be an opportunity to more effectively address slow play. He recounted frustrating experiences during his time on the Korn Ferry Tour, where the congested fields made enforcement nearly impossible. His comments reflect a growing frustration within the PGA community regarding the persistence of slow play, with fellow player Lucas Glover also advocating for more effective policies. Villegas remains optimistic that the Tour can improve the situation if decisive actions are taken.
