Poland Repels Russian Ship at Baltic Power Cable

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland's military intervened after a sanctioned Russian 'shadow fleet' ship conducted suspicious maneuvers near a critical 600-megawatt undersea power cable connecting Poland and Sweden. The Russian vessel retreated to a Russian port following the intervention, and the Polish navy dispatched the ORP Heweliusz to investigate the seabed. This incident comes after the European Union enacted new sanctions against Russia's covert maritime operations, which Western officials view as a significant security risk. Recent disruptions to Baltic undersea infrastructure have raised concerns about potential sabotage, especially as Russia has previously used 'shadow fleet' vessels to evade sanctions.
