24 Suspects Identified in Gosport Hospital Deaths

Police have identified 24 suspects in the ongoing investigation into the Gosport War Memorial Hospital deaths, with case files now being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for potential criminal charges. This investigation, known as Operation Magenta and led by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, focuses on the inappropriate administration of opioids that reportedly resulted in the premature deaths of over 450 patients between 1987 and 2001. Deputy Chief Constable Neil Jerome emphasized the complexity and scale of this inquiry, which has reviewed over three million documents and collected around 1,200 witness statements. While no arrests have been made yet, the police are conducting interviews under caution. Families affected by the scandal have expressed frustration over the lengthy investigation and are advocating for a more expedited process for reopening inquests.
