Microsoft Ends HoloLens 2 Production, Shifts Focus

Microsoft has officially discontinued production of its HoloLens 2 mixed-reality headset, with no plans for a successor. The HoloLens 2 will continue to receive critical security updates until 2027, but support will end by 2028. The original HoloLens, launched in 2016, will cease to receive updates after December 10, 2023. Despite initial ambitions to dominate the enterprise AR market, internal conflicts and shifts in strategy, including layoffs and leadership changes, hindered further development. Microsoft's remaining AR efforts are now focused on the IVAS project for the U.S. Army. This move comes amid recent AR advancements from competitors like Meta and Snap.
