Des Moines Man Charged in Golf Course Bombings

Michael James Valento, 41, was arrested after two pipe bomb-style explosive devices were found at Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa. The first device detonated on July 3 while the course was closed, resulting in no injuries, and a second live device was discovered and safely detonated by the bomb squad on July 10. The incident led to the temporary closure and evacuation of the golf course. Following a search of Valento's residence, police arrested him and charged him with two counts of possession of an explosive device with intent, first-degree and third-degree arson, and illegal possession of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender. Authorities highlighted the serious danger posed by the devices. Such incidents are considered highly unusual for the area and have left the community shaken.
