Storm Damages Unit Roof at Mississippi Parchman Prison

Severe storms, including a tornado, caused roof damage to a unit at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman on August 19, 2025. The Mississippi Department of Corrections reported no injuries to staff or inmates. Inmates housed in the affected areas were relocated to other buildings within the prison grounds while repairs are underway. The MDOC is currently assessing the full extent of the damage and is working diligently to make the necessary repairs. Parchman, the state’s oldest prison located in the Mississippi Delta, has a capacity of 2,542 beds including death row. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure safety and restore the facility.
