Alex Ovechkin Nears Return from Injury

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is nearing a return from a fractured left fibula that has sidelined him since mid-November. Coach Spencer Carbery indicated that Ovechkin, who participated in practice while wearing a non-contact jersey, may be ready to play as soon as this weekend against the LA Kings or Boston Bruins before the holiday break. The team has performed well in his absence, going 8-3-1 in their last 12 games. Ovechkin's injury was initially expected to keep him out for four to six weeks, and he is now working towards being cleared for contact in practice.
