Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya shattered the women's marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon, finishing in 2:09:56 and becoming the first woman to complete a marathon in under 2:10. This remarkable performance not only broke the previous record held by Ethiopia's Tigst Asefa (2:11:53) but also earned Chepngetich her third Chicago Marathon title. Running a blistering pace, she was significantly ahead of her competitors by the halfway mark, with her closest rival, Ethiopia's Sutume Kebede, finishing over seven minutes later in 2:17:32. The event was marked by a tribute to the late Kelvin Kiptum, who had set a world record in last year's race. Chepngetich dedicated her victory to Kiptum, expressing that her achievement brings pride to Kenya. The Chicago Marathon remains one of the six World Marathon Majors, attracting top global talent.
