Portugal is currently experiencing severe wildfires, particularly in the central and northern regions, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including three firefighters. Over 5,300 firefighters, supported by 21 aircraft, are actively engaged in combating more than 125 wildfires, with significant activity noted in the Porto and Aveiro areas. The fires have caused numerous injuries and forced the evacuation of around 100 people, prompting authorities to close several highways and suspend train services. The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority has declared a high alert and extended the emergency status due to adverse weather conditions. With over 10,000 hectares burned, the situation has led to a multidisciplinary team being created to manage the ongoing crisis.
