German Tourist Dies in Canary Islands Shark Attack

A 30-year-old German woman died after a shark attack while sailing on a British-flagged catamaran, Dalliance Chichester, off the coast of the Canary Islands. The incident occurred in international waters, 278 miles southwest of Gran Canaria. The shark bit off her leg, and despite a rapid medical response, she went into cardiac arrest and died en route to Gran Canaria Hospital on a Spanish Air Force helicopter. The attack is notably rare for the area, with only six confirmed unprovoked shark attacks historically. Both Moroccan and UK coastguards were informed, but Moroccan authorities reportedly declined to transfer her to Rabat for emergency treatment.
