Kevin Shattenkirk Retires After 14 NHL Seasons
Kevin Shattenkirk, a veteran NHL defenseman, officially announced his retirement after 14 seasons in the league, concluding his career with the Boston Bruins. Drafted 14th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, Shattenkirk played 952 regular-season games, accumulating 103 goals and 484 points, and won a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020. He expressed gratitude to the seven teams he represented throughout his career and highlighted the impact hockey had on his personal development. Despite attempting to secure a professional tryout this past fall, he did not land a contract and decided to retire at 35. Shattenkirk was known for his leadership and offensive skills, serving on the NHLPA Executive Board and advocating for his teammates. His journey in the NHL included significant contributions to playoff campaigns and an All-Star appearance in 2015.
