Yarmouth Teacher Charged with Sexual Offences Against Youth

Tina Lee Cottreau, a 52-year-old teacher at Maple Grove Education Centre in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, has been charged with multiple sexual offences, including sexual assault, sexual interference, and sexual exploitation, following an alleged incident involving a former student. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a report of the incident on March 4, with the alleged inappropriate contact occurring in February while Cottreau was on leave. She has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12. The RCMP stated that their investigation is ongoing but do not believe there are additional victims. This incident adds to concerns about teacher misconduct within the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education, as another teacher, Deidre Longmire, was also charged with similar offences earlier this year. The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education has expressed its seriousness regarding these matters, emphasizing that the investigation is active.
