Study Refutes Claim Abortion Pill Safer Than Tylenol
A series of peer-reviewed studies by the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) challenge the widespread claim that abortion medications, specifically mifepristone, are safer than Tylenol. These studies find no scientifically valid comparison exists between the two drugs, criticizing the abortion lobby and media for relying on misleading death rate comparisons without accounting for serious adverse events such as heavy bleeding and sepsis. Cameron Louttit, CLI's Director of Life Sciences and author of the research, argues that the claim is baseless and has been perpetuated by medical societies, politicians, and media despite lacking evidence. The studies highlight that FDA drug safety assessments consider multiple factors beyond mortality, and that comparing drugs with vastly different uses and risk profiles oversimplifies and distorts safety information. The research traces the origins of the claim back to early 2000s articles and editorials that compared death rates without scientific rigor, leading to a narrative that has influenced public opinion and policy without proper scientific foundation. Media outlets and even AI tools have echoed this unsupported claim, which the CLI studies describe as an illusion of scientific consensus rather than fact.
