Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) is enhancing its reproductive care services by introducing medication abortion through its PPDirect app, allowing patients to order abortion pills from home. This expansion is designed to improve accessibility and reduce wait times at health centers, particularly following the recent closure of four facilities. Patients fill out a questionnaire that is assessed by a medical professional, after which the medication is shipped directly to their homes for $200, including shipping. Tonya Tucker, interim president of PPIL, emphasizes that this service addresses barriers to care, especially in light of financial challenges faced by the organization. Medication abortion constitutes a significant portion of the services provided by PPIL, with the aim of reaching more individuals statewide. The app continues to offer other reproductive health services, including birth control and STI testing.
