Ed Hassinger Named New MoDOT Director

Hassinger, a 40-year veteran of the department, aims to address staffing shortages and restore operational capacity, having overseen a loss of over two million labor hours in the past decade due to various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasizes the need for competitive pay to attract and retain workers, as the department currently seeks legislative approval to utilize Road Fund money for salary increases. Under his leadership, MoDOT plans to complete projects outlined in a five-year plan, including expanding Interstate 70. Chairman Dustin Boatwright highlighted the need for continuity in leadership amid unprecedented project construction and funding challenges. Hassinger's immediate focus will be on filling maintenance positions and improving roadway conditions for Missouri citizens.
