Ridgefield Woman Accused of Poisoning Estranged Husband
Kristen Emily Hogan, 33, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, was arrested in early October and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of interfering with an officer; she is being held on a reported $1 million bond. State police allege Hogan spiked her estranged husband’s wine and a bottle of iced tea with ethylene glycol on Aug. 10; the victim drank from a refrigerated bottle, became violently ill, was hospitalized with renal failure, placed on dialysis, and was initially suspected of having a stroke. Laboratory testing detected ethylene glycol in the victim’s blood and in the wine. Investigators say phone-location data and a Wi‑Fi upload placed Hogan at the home the day she missed a scheduled court appearance; her phone showed internet searches about poisons and lethal doses, and she reportedly admitted buying monoethylene glycol and later told police she put the chemical in the drinks as “payback,” saying she intended to make him sick rather than kill him. A child later experienced similar symptoms and was hospitalized after a visit to the home; Hogan has denied poisoning the child. Western District Major Crime detectives continue to investigate.
