Stoke-on-Trent Hosts First UK Outdoor National Gallery Exhibition

Stoke-on-Trent has become the first UK city to host a National Gallery outdoor exhibition featuring life-sized prints of fifteen famous artworks, including pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Caravaggio, and Botticelli. The exhibition, titled 'Art on Your Doorstep,' is set up in Bethesda Gardens and aims to bring art to the public in an accessible way without the need to enter a museum, running until January 2026. The selection of artworks was curated by the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, with some pieces thoughtfully placed to interact with their architectural surroundings. This initiative celebrates both the National Gallery's bicentenary and Stoke-on-Trent's centenary, reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage as a World Craft City and Arts Council priority area. Officials and curators expressed excitement about offering residents and visitors a chance to engage with world-renowned masterpieces in an informal setting, enhancing public engagement with art. The project is part of a broader National Gallery effort to bring art to outdoor public spaces across the country.
