China Deploys First AI Chatbot Wukong Aboard Tiangong Space Station

China has deployed Wukong AI, its first artificial intelligence chatbot, aboard the Tiangong space station to support taikonauts during missions. Named after the legendary Monkey King, Wukong AI is designed to assist with navigation, tactical planning, complex operations, fault handling, and provide psychological support, enhancing both work efficiency and coordination between crew and ground teams. The system operates via two modules: one on the space station for real-time problem-solving and another on Earth for in-depth analysis, enabling comprehensive and adaptive assistance during missions. Wukong AI was first utilized during a six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk involving space debris protection installation and station inspection, where astronauts praised its detailed and helpful guidance.
