Oregon Files 37 Lawsuits Challenging Trump Administration Policies

Since President Donald Trump took office for his second term in January 2025, the state of Oregon has filed 37 lawsuits against his administration, averaging about five lawsuits per month and significantly increasing legal challenges compared to his first term. These lawsuits address issues including unconstitutional use of tariffs, blocking federal funding for Planned Parenthood, sharing Medicaid data with immigration enforcement, and demands for food assistance recipient information. Oregon joined a recent lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s decision to cut $15 million in federal funds for crime victims, arguing that the administration is unlawfully conditioning funds on immigration enforcement cooperation, which conflicts with Oregon’s sanctuary state laws. Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, leading these legal efforts, emphasized the state’s commitment to protect the rights and values of Oregonians against federal overreach and vowed to continue suing if the administration skirts the law. Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened legal action against Oregon and other sanctuary jurisdictions for refusing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, a move opposed by Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, who reaffirmed the state's sanctuary policies.
