Kentucky Prepares for Medical Cannabis Program Launch

Kentucky is preparing to launch its medical marijuana program, with certifications set to begin on December 1st. Governor Andy Beshear announced an online directory to help patients locate over 150 authorized practitioners who can issue necessary certifications for medical cannabis cards. Patients can start applying for the cards in January, although product availability is uncertain due to inspection and operational requirements for cultivators. The state has already issued 29 licenses to cultivators, processors, and safety compliance facilities, and lotteries are being conducted to grant dispensary licenses. Beshear emphasizes the program's focus on healthcare, highlighting its benefit to patients with conditions such as PTSD, chronic pain, and epilepsy. The program enjoys bipartisan support, with numerous cities and counties approving ordinances for medical marijuana businesses.
