Sphere Studios Unveils Immersive Wizard of Oz Sound Experience

Sphere Studios is reimagining the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz for its immersive venue in Las Vegas, using advanced sound technology to create a deeply enhanced audio experience. The original mono soundtrack was separated into individual stems of vocals, dialogue, and sound effects using modern technology in collaboration with Warner Bros., preserving the original vocal performances while allowing for a new spatial sound design. Sphere Immersive Sound, with its 167,000 programmable speakers, directs sound throughout the venue to deliver unprecedented clarity and depth. To maintain authenticity, the musical score was re-recorded with over 80 musicians on the same scoring stage and using the techniques of the 1930s, ensuring the new soundtrack remains true to the original film’s intent. Additionally, Sphere’s infrasound and haptic seat technology provide tactile sensations synchronized with the film, adding another layer of immersion. This innovative presentation, opening August 28, aims to offer audiences a fresh emotional connection to the classic film that is only possible at Sphere.
