Camden Officer Stabbed in Unprovoked Attack

A 28-year-old Camden County police officer was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked attack on Sunday evening near Duran Grocery at Broadway and Chestnut Street. The officer, a Marine veteran with two years of service in the department, was conducting a business check when Richard Dennis, 38, allegedly attacked him from behind. Dennis was apprehended shortly after the incident a few blocks away and has been charged with attempted murder and multiple related offenses. The officer is in critical but stable condition at Cooper University Hospital, and his name has not been released. Camden County officials and the New Jersey Attorney General have expressed their support and prayers for the officer. A detention hearing for Dennis is pending.
