Anthropic, OpenAI Offer AI to US Government for $1

Anthropic and OpenAI are competing to embed their AI tools within the U.S. federal government by offering their enterprise AI platforms—Claude and ChatGPT, respectively—to all three branches of government for a nominal fee of $1 per agency for one year. This initiative aligns with President Trump's AI Action Plan to accelerate AI adoption across federal agencies and improve efficiency in government workflows. Anthropic's deal, facilitated by the General Services Administration (GSA), extends access beyond the executive branch to include Congress and the judiciary, with technical support and FedRAMP High certification ensuring secure use for sensitive, unclassified work. OpenAI launched a similar partnership earlier, providing ChatGPT Enterprise to the executive branch under the same pricing, and Google is reportedly negotiating comparable arrangements. Both companies have been added to the GSA’s Multiple Award Schedule, enabling wider government access to these advanced AI tools at reduced costs. The strategic aim is to position their technologies as foundational in government operations and influence future AI policy and regulation.
