Fire Destroys Dormitory at Njia Boys School
A series of devastating fires in Kenyan schools has raised urgent concerns over safety protocols, with the latest incident occurring at Njia Boys High School in Meru County, where a dormitory was destroyed on September 8, 2024. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in this fire, which occurred while students were having supper. This incident follows a tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County where 21 students lost their lives, and 25 others sustained serious burns. Previous fires at Ortum Boys High School and Isiolo Girls High School also resulted in significant property damage but no casualties. Investigations into the causes of these fires are ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure and fire safety measures in schools. President William Ruto has called for accountability and thorough investigations into these incidents to prevent future tragedies.
