A historic synagogue in Philadelphia, Congregation Mikveh Israel, was targeted by a series of troubling incidents on Tuesday, including an arson and attempted burglary. The first incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. when a man set fire to a dumpster outside the synagogue, damaging a window; police have released surveillance footage of the suspect. Later that morning, around 6:30 a.m., two men attempted to break into the synagogue, damaging a fence and door but failing to gain entry. Additionally, late Tuesday night, a statue outside the synagogue was vandalized with profanity. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia condemned these acts, noting that the congregation has faced repeated antisemitic vandalism in recent months. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
