Coco Gauff Becomes Highest-Paid Female Tennis Player Surpassing Djokovic
Coco Gauff has made a bold coaching change ahead of the US Open, firing her recent coach to address her serve issues and working with biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan, who previously helped Aryna Sabalenka improve her serve, aiming for long-term improvement and more Grand Slam victories. At only 21, Gauff is now the highest-paid female tennis player, surpassing Novak Djokovic in earnings with $37 million over the past year, bolstered by lucrative endorsements from brands like Bose and New Balance and investments such as the women's professional three-on-three basketball league Unrivaled. The latest Forbes Tennis Rich List shows four women in the top seven earners, reflecting a growing prominence of women in tennis earnings, while Carlos Alcaraz remains the highest-paid tennis player overall with $48.3 million, closely followed by Jannik Sinner. Despite Djokovic's impressive career earnings, his annual income has dropped, placing him fourth behind Gauff this year. The combined earnings of the top ten male and female players totaled $285 million recently, a decrease from the peak in 2020 when Federer, Nadal, and Serena Williams earned notably high amounts. Federer has since become one of the few billionaire athletes, thanks to his investments, joining an elite group that includes stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James.
