SDSU Softball Splits Games at Tarleton State Tournament

South Dakota State's softball team began its season at the Tarleton State's Whataburger Invitational, finishing with a 1-1 record on February 14. They lost their opener against Akron 2-1, managing only two hits, while Akron's pitcher threw a complete game. However, the Jackrabbits bounced back to secure a thrilling 10-9 victory over Austin Peay, overcoming a 3-0 deficit with a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning. In contrast, the South Dakota State basketball teams are honoring Coach John McLendon by wearing 'This Game is No Secret' warm-up shirts during their upcoming games, celebrating Black History Month and the legacy of integrated sports. McLendon was a pioneering African American coach known for leading his team to three consecutive national championships. The women's team will wear the shirts against South Dakota, while the men's team will wear them against North Dakota State.
