Milpitas Mother Hid Son, Falsely Reported Disappearance

Milpitas police launched an extensive search for 9-year-old Harshail Kumar after his mother, Rohnita Prasad, reported him missing on July 3, with community volunteers and the Santa Clara County Search and Rescue team joining the effort. Harshail was last reported seen near the Edge Apartments on Montague Expressway, described as wearing a blue Minecraft shirt and carrying a green backpack. After more than 24 hours, police discovered that Prasad had intentionally concealed her son and arrested her for child endangerment, filing a false police report, and intimidating a witness. The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children Services is currently determining appropriate placement for Harshail. Authorities thanked the community for their support and stressed their commitment to child safety. The case underscores the legal consequences of making false missing child reports.
