Israeli Cyber Directorate Warns of Iran Spy Recruitment Calls Across Israel
Israeli authorities, including the National Cyber Directorate and police, have issued warnings about a wave of fake phone calls targeting residents in Israel and the occupied territories. These calls, originating from phone numbers starting with 03-6817 and 03-3067, featured recorded messages in broken Hebrew purporting to be from Iranian intelligence attempting to recruit Israelis as spies with offers of competitive salaries and full security. Officials have emphasized that these calls are intimidation tactics designed to cause panic during wartime and do not harm phones if answered. Citizens are advised not to answer these calls, to hang up immediately if they do, avoid pressing any numbers, and to report the incidents to authorities. The Israeli Cyber Directorate is actively investigating the campaign, which may be part of broader Iranian efforts to recruit agents via social media platforms like Telegram. This campaign reflects ongoing security concerns as Iranian intelligence allegedly seeks to gather strategic information through such recruitment attempts.
