Joey Chestnut Regains Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Crown After Ban
Joey "Jaws" Chestnut made an emotional and triumphant return to the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2025, winning his 17th title by consuming 70.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, narrowly missing his all-time record of 76. Chestnut had been banned from the 2024 contest due to a contract dispute after signing a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, a competitor to Nathan's, but the dispute was resolved allowing his comeback. The event, held annually in Coney Island, Brooklyn, is a cherished American tradition and attracts large crowds who eagerly welcomed Chestnut back. Despite missing last year's contest, Chestnut expressed his deep connection to the event and his excitement to reclaim the Mustard Belt, vowing to return next year. Fellow competitors, including last year’s winner Patrick Bertoletti, welcomed Chestnut's return, noting his presence adds motivation and prestige to the competition. The contest also honors the memory of Pat Philbin, a beloved competitive eater and radio personality who passed away in 2022 and was remembered fondly by the community on Independence Day.
