LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier Awarded Historic No. 18 Jersey

LSU Football has awarded the prestigious No. 18 jersey to quarterback Garrett Nussmeier for the 2025 season, a tradition honoring players who exemplify leadership and a winning spirit since Matt Mauck led the Tigers to a national championship in 2003. Nussmeier is the first quarterback to receive the jersey since Mauck and enters the season as a Heisman Trophy favorite after throwing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns last year. The redshirt senior from Lake Charles has been praised for his leadership, arm talent, and improved play, with LSU's revamped receiver corps enhancing his offensive opportunities. Wearing No. 18 places Nussmeier among Tiger legends such as Mauck, Jacob Hester, Brandon Taylor, and Tre'Davious White. If Nussmeier throws for 3,343 yards this season, he will become LSU's all-time career passing yards leader, surpassing Tommy Hodson's record. LSU will kick off their 2025 campaign against No. 4 Clemson, with Nussmeier expected to lead the team.
