Matt Wright to Stand Trial in 2025

Matt Wright, star of the Netflix series 'Outback Wrangler', is set to face trial on July 7, 2025, nearly three years after a helicopter crash that resulted in the death of his friend, co-star Chris 'Willow' Wilson, and serious injuries to pilot Sebastian Robinson. Wright has pleaded not guilty to the charge of perverting the course of justice related to his actions following the crash in West Arnhem Land. During a pre-trial hearing, senior crown prosecutor Steve Ledek indicated that additional charges currently in the Darwin Local Court would be included in the trial, which is expected to call 125 witnesses. Issues arose regarding a subpoena for NT Police Commissioner Micheal Murphy, prompting the need to reissue it due to legal errors. Justice Michael Grant highlighted faults with the subpoena, which deviated from established court practices. The next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for October 25, 2024.
