Dean Sudhir Medhekar Transferred Amid Harassment Allegations

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the transfer of Dr. Sudhir Medhekar, dean of Nair Hospital, following allegations of sexual harassment against a senior faculty member and dissatisfaction with the hospital's handling of these complaints. The decision comes after a Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee deemed the administration's response to these complaints as 'insensitive.' In total, around ten students have lodged complaints against the accused faculty member, prompting BMC to establish a Special Inquiry Committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. Shinde has emphasized the need for a safe environment in healthcare settings and mandated additional safety measures for hospital staff and students. The transfers and the inquiry are part of an effort to ensure that justice is served and proper protocols are followed in such serious cases.
