Dolphins Add Sheffield; Titans Sign TJ Sheffield

The Miami Dolphins have signed 28-year-old cornerback Kendall Sheffield, who most recently played for the New York Jets and has previously spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys practice squad. Sheffield, a 2019 fourth-round draft pick out of Ohio State, has appeared in 49 NFL games with 20 starts, accumulating 108 tackles, six passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. Last season with the Jets, he played six games and recorded nine tackles, and is expected to compete for a rotational and special teams role with the Dolphins. Despite his experience, Sheffield ranked 205th out of 222 cornerbacks in pass coverage according to Pro Football Focus last year. The Dolphins' cornerback group lacks extensive starting experience, which may offer Sheffield an opportunity for more playing time. Separately, former UConn wide receiver TJ Sheffield, who is not related to Kendall Sheffield, was signed by the Tennessee Titans after participating in their rookie minicamp.
