Argentinian President Milei Skips Mercosur Summit

Argentine President Javier Milei has decided not to attend the upcoming Mercosur summit in Paraguay due to scheduling issues, avoiding a potential meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whom he criticized during his campaign. Milei's spokesperson mentioned the President may meet former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro instead. Despite Lula expecting an apology from Milei for previous remarks, the Argentine President defended his statements, questioning the need for an apology. In Milei's absence, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino will represent Argentina at the Mercosur Summit. Additionally, Milei is proposing a bill to lower the minimum age for offenders to be tried as adults to 13 years and announced no further cabinet changes while considering electoral law amendments.
