Coco Gauff Defeats World No.1 Sabalenka in French Open Final

Aryna Sabalenka, the world number one, suffered a frustrating and error-filled defeat to Coco Gauff in the 2025 French Open final, describing it as the worst final she had ever played. Despite winning the first set, Sabalenka's performance declined sharply as she committed a staggering 70 unforced errors, compared to Gauff's 30, and lost the match 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. Sabalenka admitted to being overemotional and struggling mentally, attributing her loss more to her own mistakes than to Gauff's play. The defeat was particularly painful for Sabalenka after her hard work adapting to the slow clay surface and ending Iga Swiatek’s 26-match winning streak in the semifinals. This loss marked another missed chance for Sabalenka to capture a major title, having also lost the Australian Open final earlier in the year.
