Lorain Police Ambushed; Three Officers Shot, Suspect Dead

Three Lorain, Ohio police officers were shot in an ambush on Wednesday afternoon when a 28-year-old Lorain man opened fire as two officers ate lunch in their patrol vehicles at a dead-end street near an undeveloped industrial park. The suspect, armed with a high-powered rifle and an arsenal of weapons, also shot a third officer who responded to the scene. Two officers were airlifted in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, while the third officer suffered a hand injury. Police returned fire and killed the suspect, though it is unclear if he died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound. Authorities determined the gunman acted alone and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. State and local leaders, including Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, condemned the attack as targeted and offered support to the officers and their families.
