Tom Tykwer's The Light Opens Berlin Festival

Tom Tykwer's latest film, 'Das Licht (The Light)', will open the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on February 13, 2025, as a Berlinale Special Gala out of competition. The film, featuring actors Lars Eidinger and Nicolette Krebitz, explores the dynamics of the Engels family, whose lives are transformed by a mysterious Syrian housekeeper named Farrah. Festival director Tricia Tuttle expressed excitement for Tykwer's return, stating that his work captures the beauty and complexity of modern life. This marks Tykwer's third time opening the Berlinale, having previously done so with 'Heaven' in 2002 and 'The International' in 2009. 'The Light' will be released in German cinemas on March 20, 2025, and is produced by X Filme Creative Pool among others.
