Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey wins inaugural WSL Player of Season

Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey has been named the inaugural Women’s Super League Player of the Season at the first-ever Women’s Professional Game Awards, an honor voted for by fans and various football bodies. The Spain international scored nine goals and provided five assists in her debut WSL campaign, helping Arsenal secure a second-place league finish and reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League final against her former club Barcelona. Caldentey edged out Arsenal teammate Alessia Russo, who recently won the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year and shared the WSL Golden Boot with Manchester City's Khadija Shaw, both scoring 12 goals. West Ham’s Shekiera Martinez was recognized as the WSL Rising Star after an impressive return to form, while Manchester City’s Vivianne Miedema won the Goal of the Season for a remarkable chip against Aston Villa. The awards ceremony also honored London City Lionesses players for their achievements in the Women's Championship. Caldentey’s consistent impact was highlighted by leading Arsenal in minutes played and shot creation per 90 minutes throughout the season.
