Suspect in Athlete's Murder Dies from Burns

Dickson Ndiema, the ex-boyfriend accused of setting Ugandan Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei on fire, has died from burns sustained during the attack. Cheptegei, who competed in the Paris Olympics, succumbed to her injuries on September 5, suffering from burns covering 75-80% of her body. The incident, allegedly over a land dispute, occurred at her home in Kenya as she returned from church with her children. The attack highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence, particularly against female athletes in Kenya. Cheptegei is set to be buried in Uganda with military honors. Ndiema was under police watch and awaiting murder charges prior to his death.
