Bethesda Man Arrested After Armed Kidnapping, Police Standoff

A Bethesda man, identified as 31-year-old Robert Deeter, was arrested after allegedly kidnapping a woman at gunpoint on April 18, 2025. Montgomery County Police responded to the incident and located Deeter driving with the victim, who managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle during a police pursuit. The victim confirmed that Deeter, whom she knew, had kidnapped her at gunpoint. Following her escape, Deeter barricaded himself in his car, prompting a standoff with police negotiators who eventually convinced him to surrender peacefully. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle, and Deeter faces charges including kidnapping, first-degree assault, stalking, harassment, and multiple handgun violations. He is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.
