Sugar Foods Recalls Tortilla Strips for Wheat Allergen

Sugar Foods has issued a recall for its Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style, packaged in 3.5-ounce pouches, due to contamination with an undeclared wheat allergen. The recall was initiated after a customer reported that the pouches contained Crispy Onion Strips instead of the tortilla strips, posing a significant health risk to those with wheat allergies or gluten sensitivities. The affected products have a best-by date of June 20, 2025, and were distributed between September 30 and November 11 to various states including Pennsylvania, Texas, and Indiana. The FDA advises consumers to either return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard it. While no illnesses have been reported, the presence of wheat, not listed on the product's label, could lead to serious allergic reactions. Retailers are urged to remove these products from their shelves immediately.
