Ari Aster's Eddington Premieres on HBO Max November 14

A24’s Eddington, written and directed by Ari Aster, will stream exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, Nov. 14 and debut on HBO’s linear channel on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET. The satirical contemporary Western is set in May 2020 and centers on a powder‑keg standoff in Eddington, New Mexico, between a small‑town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and the mayor (Pedro Pascal), with a supporting ensemble including Emma Stone, Austin Butler and Micheal Ward. The film drew a nearly seven‑minute standing ovation at Cannes and has polarized critics, praised by some for its unflinching satire of pandemic‑era politics and online extremism and criticized by others as provocative for provocation’s sake. Eddington underperformed at the box office, grossing roughly $12.8–13 million worldwide against a reported $25 million net production budget after New Mexico tax credits.
