Two Arrested After Separate Topeka Shooting Incidents
Two separate violent incidents occurred recently in Topeka, Kansas. In one, police responded to a domestic disturbance that escalated into an armed standoff, where Dustin C. Kuney fired at officers before surrendering; no injuries were reported, and Kuney faces charges including aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault on law enforcement. In a second incident near Topeka High School, Maleek L. Hughes, 48, was arrested after allegedly shooting Kenneth Johnson, 48, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting prompted a brief lockdown of nearby schools, but police described the event as isolated and stated all involved parties have been accounted for. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is involved in the officer-involved standoff. Both cases remain under investigation, and no further injuries were reported in either incident.
