Broadway Musical Smash to Open in 2025

The musical adaptation of the cult-favorite NBC series 'Smash' will officially debut on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre, beginning previews on March 11, 2025, with an opening night scheduled for April 10. Directed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman, the production will feature a cast led by Robyn Hurder as Ivy and Caroline Bowman as Karen, alongside notable performers such as Brooks Ashmanskas and Krysta Rodriguez. The score, created by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, will include many songs from the TV series as well as new compositions. The book is penned by Rick Elice and Bob Martin, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse, who also choreographed the original series. Producers Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron, and Steven Spielberg expressed excitement over the adaptation, promising a clever and funny take that appeals to both fans of the show and newcomers. The production will also introduce new characters and storylines, departing from the series while retaining its core premise of creating a musical about Marilyn Monroe.
