Haeran Ryu Wins FM Championship in Playoff

Haeran Ryu made a stunning comeback to win the inaugural FM Championship, overcoming a third-round slump with a final round of 64 to force a playoff, where she made a birdie to secure her second LPGA Tour title. Ryu, who had a six-shot lead after a career-best 10-under 62 in the second round, ended up tied with Jin Young Ko after weather delays but clinched the win in the playoff. The victory earned her $570,000 from the $3.8 million purse, the highest outside the majors and the CME Group Tour Championship. This win breaks her streak of top-10 finishes without a victory this season and adds to her previous win at the Walmart NW Arkansas Open. Ryu, 23, joins Amy Yang as South Korean winners on the LPGA this year, while Ko’s runner-up finish netted her $346,821. Ryu’s victory is particularly meaningful as she overcame earlier season disappointments and adverse weather conditions during the final round.
