Hulu has acquired the family comedy 'Nutcrackers,' directed by David Gordon Green and starring Ben Stiller, in an eight-figure deal, marking a significant acquisition at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film, which features Stiller as a workaholic who becomes the caregiver for his deceased sister's children, is set to be released for Christmas. While the film received a warm audience reaction during its TIFF premiere, critics have been mixed, describing it as overly safe and reminiscent of a Hallmark movie. This marks Stiller's first leading role in seven years, as he has focused on producing and directing other projects. The production was financed by Rivulet Films and developed by Rough House Pictures, featuring real-life siblings in the roles of the children. Despite a slow acquisition pace at TIFF this year, 'Nutcrackers' stands out as one of the first major deals.
