Paris 2024 Olympic flame

The Paris 2024 Olympics has introduced a groundbreaking cauldron design that features an environmentally friendly, flameless 'flame' created using 40 LED lights and water mist. This innovative approach aims to reduce emissions and aligns with the event's goal of hosting the 'greenest Olympic Games ever'. During the opening ceremony, French gold medalists lit the cauldron, which rises about 30 meters into the air at night, paying homage to the history of hot air ballooning in France. Designer Mathieu Lehanneur emphasized the cauldron's spirit, describing it as 'light, magical and unifying,' while the public can view it up close during the day at Tuileries Garden. Despite mixed reactions on social media regarding the authenticity of the flame, the organizers are praised for their commitment to environmental sustainability. The use of a faux flame marks a significant departure from Olympic traditions, dating back to the 1936 Berlin Games.
