Syrian President Reports Advanced Security Talks with Israel on 1974 Golan Line

Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara has confirmed significant progress in negotiations with Israel toward a bilateral security agreement based on restoring the 1974 disengagement line separating Syrian and Israeli forces in the Golan Heights. He emphasized that Syria will take any decision that serves its interests and expressed support for broader economic integration in the Middle East. Talks have included discussions mediated by the United States, aiming to ease tensions in southern Syria and revive stability measures from the 1974 disengagement accord. Israeli forces have expanded control over parts of southern Syria since late 2024, complicating the security landscape. Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Barrack has been mediating between Jerusalem and Damascus and pushing for regional security understandings, including attempts to reduce Israeli strikes on Hezbollah and improve conditions for minority communities. Despite the progress, Syria's leadership does not yet see the conditions for a full peace deal but remains open to agreements benefiting Syria and the region.
